It appears our juveniles have successfully taken flight. It may take juveniles a few weeks before they start catching their own fish. If they are unsuccessful the parents will assist them if they are unable to make a catch.

Full adult plumage is achieved at 18 months. Juvenile osprey strongly resemble the adults, except that the brown feathers of the upper body are tipped buff-white, and the streaking on the breast and crown tends to be heavier. The eye color changes from brown to yellow as juveniles mature.

I'd love to see our juvies take off and land. Hope they perform in view of the camera before they head south for the winter.

Will the juvies keep returning to the nest to be fed until they are able to catch fish themselves?

Looks like mama standing all alone looking for her two young ones. Anyone seen the juvies flying around/near the nest?

They removed the eggs from the Loch of the Lowes nest in Scotland yesterday. They will be analyzed and a report will be forthcoming.

It appears that this nesting season is fast coming to a close. Once again thank you to the anonymous moderator, another fine job, and also thank you to Palmetto Electric for providing this website.

Warm thanks to all at Palmetto Electric! After a somewhat rocky start, it is rewarding to see an empty nest. See you in 2012.

Ditto to Tim -- thanks to the Moderator and Palmetto for an entertaining site, especially for the film clip of Momma eating the pine cone seeds some time back.

When might we expect the chicks to leave the nest for good, or have they already?

I have seen the juvies, both of them, yesterday or the day before in the nest. I think they are coming and going now.
