08 February 2012

The male osprey that has been frequenting our nest the past several days appears to be new to the platform. We don't have any photos from 2008 - 2011 of a male osprey with the same head markings as this male.

A few new materials such as pine cones and twigs are appearing on the nest so the new male is attempting to take ownership of the platform for the 2012 season. The new male will have to defend the nest if last year's couple returns.

Hope we don't have any "conflicts" this year so that we can have a successful breeding season. Hopefully, it will be fun to watch.

Male osprey on the nest this morning. The pictures is somewhat blurry. Any chance that it will clear up?

Condensation on the inside of the camera. It should clear itself up.

Looks like our little guy has been busy. Lots of new nesting material being brought in. And, yes, the camera cleared up nicely! Anyone see a female in the nest?

Drat, I missed seeing the pair on the nest. But it's easy to see that birds have been busy working on the nest. Exciting.

I just saw the male bring the female a fish. Is this the same pair as last year. Sure looks like them...

Hey Sue,

I've yet to see the front and head markings of the female so I'm not sure if it's Bea from last year.

Maybe as the two interact on the nest we'll get a better look.

Sue,

This females necklace or breast coloring is much less distinctive than Bea's from last year. Bea had a very dark, pronounced necklace. I'll have to check past photos on her to see if she's been on our platform in past years.

Thanks for checking...Darn.

Is she getting ready to lay her first egg? Sure looks like it.

Not quite.

Dunedin laid her first egg two days or so after doing the dasterdly deed. Couldn't it happen here, too?

If past seasons hold true for this nest, egg laying will probably be in March.
