25 February 2013

From the photos we took last week, it appears that Bea and Jasper have returned for their third year at our platform. This pair has a total of four offspring that fledeged, two in 2011 and two in 2012. In 2011, the chick, MT, died in it's 5th week and last year the third chick, which would have been called TN, never hatched.

The pair appears to be on schedule arriving at the nest between the second and third week of February. In 2011 eggs were laid March 25th, 28th, and 31st. In 2012, Bea laid eggs on March 24th, 26th, and 29th.

So we could possible see a clutch in a months time if the pair sticks to their timetable. As in the past two seasons, there is much work to be done to have the nest ready for eggs.

Just had my first look at one of our osprey friends this season. I think they have nest making down pat now--just hope they fill it in with nice padding. This new camera and view are so much nicer and will make watching easier and more fun!

I have enjoyed watching the ospreys for several years. Love the new camera position! The view of the nest is great, and will provide a better vantage point for watching these magnificent birds!

Wonderful to see them back. The nest could do with a few more sticks.

Good morning Vivian,

Yes, Bea and Jasper are going a very good job of preparing the nest. They've done a lot of work in a short time.

Anyone know how to capture screen shots and post them here on the blog?
Thanks,
Mary Pat :)

I'll give it a try Mary.

Mary Pat, it wouldn't let me paste the picture. There must be a way. Mod, any ideas?

Hey Carol,

I don't believe anyone but the moderator can post photos.

Have there been any sightings of other ospreys trying to take over this nest as in years past? If not, maybe that's why our couple is doing so well with there nest building.

Mary Pat, I can tell you how to capture screen shots if you don't already know.

Looks like a nice bowl starting to develop. They just need to get it more in the center of the nest.

Mary Pat, start by having your site on FULL SCREEN. Hit SHIFT and PRT SCR. This takes the shot. Then open PAINT. You can find this if you go to START or you can search programs to find it. Paint takes you to the picture. Hit EDIT and you will see it. If you like it, go ahead and save it. Otherwise, it will delete when you leave that site. Good luck!
