Welcome to the 2014 Palmetto Electric Osprey Season

Our first osprey of the season appeared on January 15th. At first we thought it was Benecio from four years ago, but after reviewing his photographs we discovered we had a new osprey on the platform. This new male hasn't wasted any time gathering material to repair the nest.

So far we have two new ospreys on the platform, so we may see some competion for the platform if Bea and Jasper return for their fourth season.

Oh dear! These two are working so hard. I can't imagine that Bea and Jasper won't return. Seems like there was some competition last year (or year before) for the nest. We'll see what happens this year.

It took me a couple of weeks to get onto the blog again! So now let me welcome back all our nesters for another exciting osprey season. Good start on this year's nest although some of it seems to have been blown off with yesterday's high winds.

Great closeup this morning. Can't wait to read if that is either Bea or Jasper--or the intruder.

Whoever that is on the nest this morning is beautiful and has been working hard getting that nest ready. Thanks again for the closeups!

Good morning Vivian,

The osprey on the platform is the new male that has been tiding up the nest. We have had three different males on the platform to date, though this male has occupied it the most. We have yet to see Bea or Jasper from the past three years.

Thanks for the update! I looked back at last year's gallery, and the first pictures begin February 22. I guess there's still plenty for Bea and Jasper to show up.

From what I recall they came mid February. Could be interesting to see who controls the nest.
