Sad news for the folks over at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Their chicks were doing fine on June 23 and by the evening or early on the 24th they disappeared. Learn more from their site.

The chicks at the Blackwater nest probably were taken by Great Horned Owls. That happened at the Kentucky Environmental Education Projects nest a couple of years ago. There were three chicks, and each night for three nights one went missing. Then last year the GHO's made the Osprey nest their own and hatched and fledged two adorable chicks! (But it is very sad for the Blackwater Osprey parents.)
